meet your counselors
Lyra Hua is the Associate Principal of Educational Development (APED), having previously served as the Associate Principal of Administrative Services. Since 2000, she has held various roles at East Side, including Subject Area Coordinator for Math, Instructional Coach, and WASC Coordinator.
Ms. Alva earned her Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Behavior & Leadership from University of San Francisco and her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from National University. She has worked with the ESUHSD for almost 15 years.
Mrs. Nguyen holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Loyola University in New Orleans and initially taught math and Vietnamese before earning a master’s degree in Counseling Education from San Jose State University.
Mrs. Chapman earned her bachelor's in English and teaching credential from San Jose State University, where she also completed her Masters in Education and Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Her passion for counseling developed through her experience teaching English and AVID. Excited to join the Silver Creek community, she is dedicated to helping students navigate their paths to adulthood and higher education.
Ms. Mendoza earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare with a minor in Education from UC Berkeley. Her experience of helping her family members with high school course planning and the college application process solidified her decision to go into counseling to continue helping others. This led her to pursue a masters in Counselor Education with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from San José State University. She has been a school counselor since 2016 and enjoys helping students reach their post-secondary goals. Ms. Mendoza is excited to be a part of the Silver Creek High School community.
Ms. Navarro earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Gender and Women’s Studies from UC Berkeley before working as a college adviser there. She then pursued a Master’s in Counselor Education with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from San José State University, and has since worked as a counselor in various school districts and at UC Berkeley in a pre-college access program.
